Ron Gibson was born 6-30-1946 in Plainview, Texas to Raymond Allen Gibson and Chrystelle (Hayden) Gibson. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1964. He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock where he met his wife, Lawana Lee Melton. They were married on 9-9-1967. In January 1970, Ron was drafted to serve in the Army. He was stationed outside of Danang, Vietnam and was in the Americal Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. After two years in the Army, he returned to Texas Tech, where in 1972, he received a degree in accounting with a minor in economics.

After college, Ron and Lawana moved to Dallas, where he became an accountant for Binyon-Okeefe. He also worked for Sam P. Wallace Co. and the American Heart Assoc. At night, he studied computer programming and received certification in that field. He then went to work for SSBA Bankcard in Addison. After several years, he moved to Hogan Systems. He traveled in Europe working with banks to design and help write Eurocard. Over the years, through buy outs, he worked for Computer Science, ALLTEL, and Fidelity Systems. He retired in 2004.

Ron was diagnosed with esophageal cancer on 10-12-2009. He was found to have lung, liver, lymph and bone cancer, also.

He is survived by his wife, Lawana Gibson; daughters, Rowana Anne Gonzales, Laura Chappelear and husband Chad, Heather Gibson; and three grandsons, Damon Chappelear, Jordan and Jonah Gonzales. He is also survived by his mother, Chrystelle; and two sisters, Cynthia Douglas and husband Tommy, Brenda Keenum and husband Wayne. There are many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his father, Raymond Gibson; brother, Ray Gibson; son-in-law, Nicklas Gonzales; and nephew, Christopher Douglas.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, 12-1-2009 at Restland Funeral Home. A service will be held in Ron’s honor at 3:30 pm, Wednesday, 12-2-2009 in Restland’s Memorial Chapel, with interment to follow in Restland Memorial Park, Garden of Memories.
